Description
The UCSF Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education houses the FAMRI William Cahan Fund, which supports scientific and medical research within FAMRI’s mission of advancing the early detection and cure of diseases and medical conditions caused by exposure to tobacco smoke. Projects may investigate secondhand tobacco smoke through policy-relevant or biomedical research, or examine tobacco control policymaking and interventions to reduce tobacco use or secondhand-smoke exposure.
These awards are intended for developmental work: initiating a project or collecting preliminary data for a larger study. Reviewers consider a project’s potential to counter the effects of secondhand smoke and lead to external funding. Awardees also participate in the center’s activities, including monthly research-in-progress meetings.
