Farm Agronomic Practices Program supports Vermont farms with soil conservation practices and agronomic training to protect agricultural land, reduce erosion and nutrient runoff, and improve water quality.

Funding Amounts: Up to $10,000 per farm operation per calendar year; 2026 practice rates of $15–$60 per acre

Description
The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets runs the Farm Agronomic Practices Program to help Vermont farms install soil conservation practices. Eligible work includes cover crops, conversion of annual cropland to perennial forage, rotational grazing, no-till crop planting, no-till pasture and hayland renovation, and manure injection. These practices support soil cover and forage management while reducing erosion, nutrient runoff, and disturbance to cultivated land.
The program also offers separate agronomic training grants for farms and service providers to attend training on agricultural water quality regulations or the effects of agricultural practices on water quality. Practice grants are reviewed in order of receipt rather than through a competitive review process; applying does not guarantee funding.
