Description
The Clean Vessel Act is a nationwide competitive federal program funded through the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service awards funds to states; in Wisconsin, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) subawards funds for projects that help recreational boaters dispose of sewage safely and reduce pollution in waterways.
Supported work includes constructing, renovating, operating, and maintaining pump-out and dump stations, including floating restrooms used solely by boaters. Projects can also provide boater education, information about station locations, and activities involved in holding or transporting sewage and arranging for treatment facilities to accept it.
