Description
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) places selected members in Washington, D.C., for a year of technical work with Congress or federal agencies. Fellows research engineering challenges, brief decision-makers, help develop policy ideas, and translate technical concepts into guidance on issues including innovation, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, and public safety.
The program aims to bring engineering judgment into policymaking while giving fellows firsthand experience of government. Fellowship opportunities include congressional offices and federal agencies; placements at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) are available only when OSTP requests fellows.
