Description
Artist Trust’s annual Fellowship Awards provide merit-based, unrestricted support to practicing artists of exceptional talent and ability across all disciplines in Washington State. Rather than funding a specified project, the awards recognize artistic excellence, an artist’s background and experience, and continued dedication to their work. The program is intended for artists with a well-developed practice and a clear record of ongoing artistic activity and growth. First awarded in 1987, it is Artist Trust’s longest-running award program.
Racial equity and geographic diversity guide the selection process, alongside representation of varied disciplines and practices. Reviewers consider structural, institutional, and historical barriers affecting artists’ careers, with particular attention to Black and Indigenous artists, rural artists, and LGBTQIA+ artists. Four named fellowships recognize specific artist communities or visual arts practices.
