Description
The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh hosts visiting fellows across the arts, humanities and social sciences. Its programmes support postdoctoral and early-career researchers, mid-career and senior scholars, University of Edinburgh researchers, and creative writers. Research visits generally last 2–10 months and provide dedicated office space, University library access, work-in-progress seminars, social events and membership of an international alumni network spanning more than 65 countries.
The portfolio includes subject-specific research fellowships, country-targeted opportunities, unfunded visiting affiliations and a long-standing partnership with the Traverse Theatre. The IASH/Traverse Creative Fellowship commissions and develops new theatrical work addressing urgent issues in contemporary and future life. It offers playwrights research resources, dramaturgical support and dedicated writing time, with an emphasis on ambitious, entertaining, audience-focused work.
