Description
The Fenton Community Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint supports homegrown philanthropy in the South Lakes area. Established in 1991 under Jack Winegarden’s leadership, the fund supports arts and culture, community development, health and human services, and recreation. A local advisory committee meets throughout the year to review applications and advise funding for nonprofits exclusively benefiting Fenton, Lake Fenton, and Linden.
Past awards illustrate a broad range of community work: parent-child programming, emergency and transitional housing, community care property improvements, historic restoration, outdoor recreation, career connections, and orchestra summer programming. The fund also carries forward Winegarden’s work building a permanent community endowment through associated funds, including the Florence Michelson Fund, which is advised by the local committee.
