Field Camps supports students through Society of Exploration Geophysicists funding for faculty-guided fieldwork that builds practical geophysics skills, leadership, and community understanding of geoscience.
Funder: Society of Exploration Geophysicists
Due Dates: November 1, 2026 (Applications open) | January 5, 2027 (Optional feedback draft) | February 1, 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Partial project support for equipment, software, field logistics, educational materials, and data acquisition
Summary: Supports student-led, faculty-guided field camps that advance geophysics education through hands-on fieldwork and community outreach.
Key Information: Only student-led applications are considered; organizing students and at least one faculty advisor must belong to an SEG Student Chapter.
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), with sponsorship from the SEG Foundation, supports student-led, faculty-guided field experiences that move geophysics learning beyond the classroom. Field camps let students apply theory using geophysical tools, data, equipment, and workflows that reflect professional practice. The program complements academic study, expands access to applied training, and develops student leadership, collaboration, and professional readiness.
Camps bring together students, faculty, industry professionals, and local communities. Rather than fully financing projects, SEG encourages partnerships and shared resources among universities, companies, and government entities. Supported activities should demonstrate real-world geophysical methods and engage local communities in the value of geoscience. Recipients share their results with the wider SEG community through reports, presentations, and educational or outreach products.
