The Finch Family Graduate Award supports students pursuing research-based, full-time graduate degrees at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus. Offered by Ken and Jean Finch and administered by the College of Graduate Studies, it provides one-year support for one master’s student and one doctoral student. Preference is given to students whose studies may lead to entrepreneurship, innovation, community involvement, or local economic development.
The award recognizes both graduate research potential and engagement beyond academic work. Evaluation places greater weight on applicants’ involvement in entrepreneurship, local economic development, community development, or innovation than on research ability and academic excellence. Leadership, the value and lasting impact of contributions, and the ability to explain what applicants learned through their involvement are central considerations.
