The Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization offers Cleanup Grants to remediate brownfield sites owned by eligible applicants. Funding can address hazardous substances and/or petroleum contamination at one site or multiple sites. Brownfields are properties whose expansion, redevelopment, or reuse may be complicated by contamination, including mine-scarred lands.
The program seeks to mitigate health risks, restore economic vitality, and facilitate sustainable reuse of contaminated properties. It emphasizes opportunities for residents of communities historically affected by economic disinvestment, health disparities, and environmental contamination to benefit from redevelopment. Applications are evaluated for their cleanup and reuse vision, community needs and engagement, resource leveraging, reasonable costs, and ability to implement the project. Awards are cooperative agreements involving substantial EPA participation.
