EPA’s Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization administers Community-wide Assessment Grants to help communities prevent, inventory, assess, and plan for the cleanup and reuse of brownfield sites. Funding supports site inventories and prioritization, community involvement, environmental site assessments, site-specific cleanup plans, and reuse planning. The program serves communities beginning to address brownfield challenges as well as those with ongoing redevelopment efforts.
Projects may address actual or potential contamination from hazardous substances, pollutants, contaminants, petroleum, or hazardous substances comingled with petroleum. The program aims to mitigate health risks, restore economic vitality, and help residents affected by economic disinvestment, health disparities, and environmental contamination benefit from redevelopment. EPA encourages area-wide planning where multiple sites share infrastructure, location, or economic, social, and environmental conditions.
