Description
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries Habitat Grant Program supports activities that benefit fisheries, aquatic resources, and the public across Michigan. Funding covers fish habitat conservation, dam removal and repair, and research and assessments that inform future habitat conservation. The program seeks to sustain healthy habitats, fisheries, and aquatic communities.
Competitive projects address causes of habitat degradation rather than symptoms and provide long-lasting benefits. DNR also considers cost-effectiveness, appropriate methods, monitoring of project outcomes, and health and human safety in dam management. Eligible projects addressing the department’s priority habitat conservation list may receive preference. The list is not exhaustive, and partners should discuss proposed projects, methods, and eligibility with DNR staff.
