Funding Amounts: Approximately $1.5 million for all projects; planning awards capped at $500,000 per county per biennium

Key Information: Recipients must provide a 25% match for planning projects or a 20% match for emergency projects.
Description
Established by the Washington Legislature in 1984, the Flood Control Assistance Account Program is administered by the Department of Ecology’s Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program. It helps local jurisdictions develop comprehensive flood hazard management plans and take action to reduce flood risks. Federally recognized Tribal governments may apply for planning projects.
Planning support includes new or updated plans, feasibility and technical studies, mapping, permitting, acquisition planning, outreach, and public flood risk communications. It can also provide match for federal projects that lead to comprehensive flood hazard management plans. Emergency funding supports flood response and recovery work. Flood planning projects in underserved communities receive priority.
