Description
Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) is a national competitive program funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and administered in Maine by the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). It funds activities that reduce or eliminate repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), while reducing NFIP flood claim payments and strengthening community flood resilience.
Support spans capability and capacity building, localized flood risk reduction, and mitigation of individual structures. Eligible work includes mitigation planning, project scoping, partnership development, floodplain management improvements, Severe Repetitive Loss/Repetitive Loss strategies, and substantial damage procedures. Localized projects address community flood risk and may be phased. Individual mitigation projects focus on specific NFIP-insured structures.
