Description
The Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) program, administered in Maine by the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), is a national FEMA grant program focused on reducing or eliminating repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The FMA program funds mitigation planning, capacity building, localized flood risk reduction, and individual property mitigation projects. The ultimate goal is to decrease NFIP flood claims and strengthen community resilience through long-term, sustainable flood mitigation.
Eligible projects include mitigation planning, technical assistance, project scoping, flood risk reduction infrastructure, and individual property mitigation measures such as acquisition, elevation, and floodproofing. Compliance with federal procurement standards and the Build America Buy America Act (BABAA) is required for larger infrastructure projects.
