Description
FMA Swift Current is a FEMA disaster grant managed in South Carolina by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). It uses disaster declarations and flood insurance claims to direct funding toward individual flood mitigation projects, with the goal of reducing damage to insured buildings and future flood insurance claims. South Carolina’s funding is a state set-aside rather than a nationally competitive allocation.
Eligible project types are acquisition and demolition, elevation, mitigation/reconstruction, dry floodproofing of historic residential or non-residential buildings, and structural or non-structural retrofitting of existing buildings and facilities. Acquisition leaves the property undevelopable in perpetuity; mitigation/reconstruction replaces the demolished structure with a compliant new one.
