Description
The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) offers these fellowships to individual folk and traditional artists who demonstrate exceptional skill and accomplishment. The program recognizes artistic practices rooted in families or communities that express a community’s aesthetic heritage and traditions. Its unrestricted support is intended to advance an artist’s practice and career rather than fund a prescribed project.
RISCA considers the quality and artistic merit of the work, how and from whom the artist learned the tradition, and why it matters that the art form continues to be practiced and passed down. For this program, RISCA defines artistic merit and excellence as artistic vibrancy and impact.
