The Fund for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) provides Follow-up Grants for timely coverage that builds on an already published investigation funded by FIJ. The program extends the Fund’s support for high-quality, unbiased, nonpartisan investigative journalism that has an impact. Funding helps reporters pursue additional reporting on their original stories, covering expenses such as document collection, travel, research and reporting time.
FIJ looks for investigations that break new ground and expose wrongdoing, including corruption, malfeasance and misuse of power in the public and private sectors. Its investigative support encompasses print, online and broadcast stories, books, documentaries and podcasts. The Fund encourages proposals written for ethnic media and submitted by journalists of color. Staff screen proposals, and the Board of Directors reviews and votes on eligible applications.
