    Description

    This funding opportunity supports the creation and ongoing operation of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) at the state and local level to enhance the national integrated food safety system. The goal is to unify and coordinate federal, state, and local emergency response efforts for human and animal food (HAF) incidents. Key objectives include:

    • Strengthening collaboration among epidemiology, laboratory, and environmental health/regulatory sectors.
    • Improving state regulatory and surveillance programs for HAF protection, including the use of Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) principles, and a Unified Command structure for all-hazards emergencies.
    • Rapid identification and removal of tainted food from commerce, and conducting root cause investigations to inform future prevention.
    • Supporting activities such as training, data sharing and analysis, communications, continuous process improvement, and development of best practices to build national response capacity.

    Clinical trials are not allowed under this opportunity.
