Description
The Wildlife Conservation Board’s Forest Conservation Program supports planning, acquisition, and restoration projects throughout California’s forests. Created under Proposition 84 in 2006, it aims to promote the ecological integrity and economic stability of the state’s native forests while sustaining their public benefits. The program covers productive managed forest lands, forest reserves, redwood forests, and other forest types, with attention to water resources and habitat for native fish, wildlife, and plants.
Additional funding under Proposition 68 advances protection and restoration of upper watershed lands in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountains. Goals include improving water supply and quality, forest health, flood protection, and riparian and aquatic resources while reducing wildfire danger.
