Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) supports outstanding doctoral students at UBC with sustained stipend and tuition funding to provide a stable base for their doctoral studies and research.

Description
The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF), administered by UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, supports outstanding doctoral students from Canada and abroad through sustained stipend and tuition funding. It provides stable, base-level support for doctoral studies and research rather than funding a single defined project. Fellowships generally support incoming students, although continuing students may also receive awards.
Selection is based on academic excellence and graduate-program recommendation, with priority given to incoming students. The fellowship supports research across UBC graduate programs: featured recipients study subjects ranging from depression and healthy aging to global shipping, post-wildfire recovery, electronic structure, and automated anesthesia. Funding remains conditional on satisfactory academic progress.
