Funding Amounts: Up to $24,000 annual stipend plus tuition support, for up to four years

Key Information: Available to full-time PhD, DMA, and MD/PhD students, with MD/PhD funding limited to the PhD portion.
Description
The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF), administered by UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, helps the university attract and support outstanding domestic and international doctoral students. It provides sustained, base-level support for doctoral studies and research, with selection based on academic excellence and recommendations from graduate programs. Incoming students receive priority, although continuing students may also receive fellowships.
The program supports doctoral inquiry across UBC disciplines rather than a single prescribed research theme. Featured recipients work in areas including amphibian physiology, mental health treatment, tidal marsh restoration, Indigenous agroforestry, biomedical engineering, climate justice education, ethnomusicology, and law. Graduate programs receive annual fellowship allocations and identify outstanding students for support.
