Administered by AASLD Foundation, this award supports small-scale exploratory research on interventions to improve outcomes for people living with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) resulting from liver diseases. It targets new ideas or approaches with clear potential for high-impact results but little or no preliminary data to compete for other funding. It is not intended to sustain ongoing laboratory research. Highly innovative, high-risk/high-reward projects receive priority.
The program enables investigators to test ideas or methods and gather data for longer-term grants. Projects must involve direct clinical interaction with patients, patient clinical data, or patient samples; pragmatic studies may also qualify. The award is supported through the Frank J. Tusa Fund, established through a contribution from the Tusa Family.
