Description
The American Philosophical Society’s Franklin Research Grants support the practical costs of individual scholars’ noncommercial research in all areas of knowledge. Eligible work includes travel to libraries and archives, microfilm, photocopies or equivalent research materials, fieldwork, and laboratory research. The program supports research leading to publication, rather than publication costs or conference attendance.
The Society is particularly interested in scholars who recently received their doctorates. Independent scholars and faculty at two-year and four-year institutions, including research and non-research institutions, are welcome. Senior scholars are also considered, and proposals are judged on their merits; junior scholars receive preference when competing with senior colleagues for the same funds.
