Key Information: Open to FSBI student members; projects cannot form part of a degree programme or expedition.
The Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI) runs an annual competition supporting undergraduate summer internships in fish biology. The grants contribute to subsistence and travel expenses for supervised research lasting up to eight weeks in the UK or Republic of Ireland. Internships take place during the summer vacation while students are registered, or during the summer immediately after completing their final undergraduate year.
Projects may address any field relevant to fish biology and the Society’s objectives. Fish would normally be the primary species studied, but research examining how non-fish taxa influence fish biology can also qualify. Students may undertake research outside their own department or institution. The programme supports standalone research rather than work forming part of a degree programme or participation in an expedition.
