The Wyn Wheeler Research Grant is run by the Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI) to support continued activity in fish biology following retirement from full-time employment. It honours Society founder Alwyne Wheeler, who continued making significant contributions to fish biology after retirement. The fund was established at the behest of former Newsletter Editor Terry Langford.
The grant supports scientific studies with clear aims, robust methods and a justified budget. Research may address any finfish species, including interactions with non-fish taxa where fish biology remains the focus. FSBI particularly favours areas where national or local research funding is difficult to obtain. Projects should be scientifically strong, interesting, innovative or potentially high-impact, and feasible within the proposed resources and time.
