Description
The Fulbright Finland Foundation’s FLTA program supports and diversifies Finnish language and culture teaching in the United States while introducing participants to U.S. higher education. Finnish students, recent graduates, and early-career teachers spend nine months at a U.S. university, assisting professors, potentially teaching undergraduate courses independently, and organizing Finnish language and culture events. The host for 2027–28 is the University of Washington in Seattle.
Alongside teaching, grantees may take university courses for further study and research without tuition charges. The experience develops teaching and English skills, strengthens understanding of U.S. society, and promotes cultural exchange. Participants serve as ambassadors for Finland, Fulbright, and their home institutions, where applicable. Orientation, personal advising, and networking opportunities support the exchange.
