Description
The Fulbright Scholar Program supports a three-month lectureship in the University of Calabria’s Department of Humanities in Italy. The award is designated 100% teaching and centers on the master’s-level “Italian-American Culture and Literature” course. Instruction is in English, with 60 hours of lectures and seminars, normally six hours weekly for approximately 25 students. The scholar also advises or mentors students and may collaborate with peers and engage with the university and local community.
The interdisciplinary focus is the experience of Italians and Italian-Americans in the United States and Canada. Relevant fields include history, anthropology, folklore, American and Italian literature, cinema, media, music, economics, law, sociology, performing arts, diaspora studies, working-class and labor studies, and memory and heritage studies. The course forms part of UniCal’s wider Italian Diaspora Studies cultural project and Fulbright’s mission of international understanding and cooperation.
