Description
The Fund to Assist Former Foster Youth (FAFFY) is administered by the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS), Grants Management Unit (GMU). Created through Assembly Bill 94 in 2001 and supported by Nevada’s State General Fund, it extends the Independent Living Program by funding goods and services that help young adults who aged out of Nevada foster care transition to adulthood and economic self-sufficiency.
Supported services include daily living skills, budgeting, career exploration, job training and placement, high school completion, and preparation for postsecondary education. Funding also supports housing assistance, medical insurance, substance abuse prevention, preventive health activities, mentoring, emotional support, interpersonal skills, and information about local human service, medical, and mental health resources. DCFS encourages innovative projects reaching populations across Nevada’s geographic regions.
