The Northwest Potato Research Consortium coordinates potato research funding through a cooperative effort of the Idaho, Oregon, and Washington potato commissions. Launched in February 2012 and fully funded by Northwest potato growers, the Consortium aims to increase cooperation and efficiency across the commissions’ research programs. It also works to deliver useful research results to growers and industry members.
The annual selection process brings scientists, state research committees, and potato industry reviewers together to consider proposed projects. Industry participants score proposals, and the Consortium board uses those rankings to recommend projects and funding amounts to the three commission boards. Supported research spans potato health, production, and variety development, with results shared through the Consortium’s research library and related resources.
