    Description

The Society for the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (SAFN) launched this fellowship in 2023, building on its 2020 Statement on Racial Injustice. The program supports the research, community-engaged scholarship, and activism of junior scholars of color. It aims to amplify their voices, encourage public engagement with food anthropology, and build a more inclusive anthropology of food and nutrition.

Fellows receive a platform to share their work through SAFN’s FoodAnthropology blog, connect their scholarship with others, and participate in SAFN leadership. Each fellow works with a SAFN mentor who supports the project and helps edit a themed series of blog posts related to the fellow’s work. This format offers opportunities to expand scholarly networks and develop a personal and collective body of work that is more timely and accessible than regular academic publishing.
