International Multilateral Initiatives is the Austrian Science Fund’s framework for supporting international cooperation in cutting-edge research. Through multinational consortia of funding organizations, FWF enables researchers to undertake cross-border projects, with many opportunities focused on specific subjects. The framework includes European Partnerships, ERA-NETs, the Belmont Forum, DFG–FWF cooperative programs, and LUKE.
These initiatives support complementary goals: developing the European Research Area, coordinating national and regional research, addressing global environmental change, enabling German–Austrian research cooperation, and strengthening Ukraine’s research and innovation capacities. The calls detailed here are TRANSCAN-4’s “Translational Research on Cancer Metabolism: Multidisciplinary Approaches for Diagnosis and Treatment” and Water4All’s “Sustainable Water Management.” They respectively seek clinically impactful cancer research and knowledge and tools for long-term water security and evidence-based decision-making.
