Summary: Supports closely integrated research projects between Austria and South Tyrol that create added scientific value through international cooperation.
Key Information: Both partners must make substantial scientific contributions, and their project parts cannot be carried out and funded independently.
The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the Provincial Administration of South Tyrol jointly support bilateral, cross-border research projects linking researchers in Austria and South Tyrol. The cooperation accepts proposals from all scientific and scholarly disciplines, including clinical research. Its goal is to generate added scientific value through closely integrated international collaboration, rather than fund separate national research activities.
FWF acts as the lead agency, reviewing the joint proposal through its Principal Investigator Projects or Clinical Research procedures. Applications compete with proposals submitted to those programs. South Tyrol usually adopts the lead agency’s decision and, following approval, funds the South Tyrolean component through its own decision on the funding amount.
