    Description

The Austrian Science Fund’s Open-Access Block Grant supports publication costs for peer-reviewed journal articles and individual contributions to open-access edited volumes resulting wholly or partly from FWF-funded projects. Institutions administer the funding under the FWF’s PROFI funding mode, in addition to approved project budgets, to help researchers comply with the FWF Open-Access Policy.

The program supports gold open-access journals, diamond and alternative publishing platforms, and eligible publisher agreements. Publications must use a CC BY license, with no embargo for platform publications and transformative agreements. Introduced on January 1, 2024, it replaced the Peer-Reviewed Publications program for all projects, regardless of approval date. Authors arrange support through their institutions rather than submitting a separate publication-funding application to FWF.
