The Austrian Science Fund’s Principal Investigator Projects program supports investigator-driven basic research across all disciplines. It gives principal investigators and their groups the resources and flexibility to investigate individual research questions within clearly defined projects. Research must be knowledge-oriented, internationally competitive, and valuable for advancing science and scholarship.
The program supports new ideas or questions, new methods or technologies, original approaches, and existing approaches applied or adapted to new questions. Incremental development of published data or the next logical research step is not considered innovative or original. Projects are managed at Austrian research institutions and may involve associated Austrian research partners and national or international cooperation partners.
