Key Information: All participating researchers must qualify for funding from their respective national or regional funding agency.
The Austrian Science Fund (FWF), in cooperation with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), supports cross-border Principal Investigator Projects through the Weave network. Researchers from all disciplines can propose closely integrated bilateral projects between Austria and Switzerland, with the option of including a third eligible partner country. Each country's researchers must make substantial scientific contributions, creating added value through international cooperation rather than simply combining separate national projects.
Weave uses a Lead Agency model to simplify submission and evaluation. Applicants choose a coordinating researcher and a lead funding agency, which evaluates the joint proposal once under its own program rules. The other participating agencies receive the funding recommendation for approval and budgetary purposes. Each agency funds its own national or regional project part.
