Description
This competitive state-funded program expands the Massachusetts Public Adult Education system by increasing the number of providers and classes serving adult English learners. Administered by Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS), it funds new classes in target communities and instruction that combines English language learning, digital skills, and contextualized workplace preparation.
Competitive priorities include formal agreements with current DESE providers to enroll learners waiting for ESOL classes, partnerships with workforce training providers or employers, and demonstrated capacity to teach job-readiness and digital skills addressing local employer needs. Supported activities include instructional staffing, curriculum and software, classroom technology, community outreach, professional development, and participation supports such as childcare, transportation assistance, and career counseling.
