This grant program is designed to fund targeted, evidence-based strategies to support turnaround efforts in the lowest performing schools and districts within Massachusetts' Strategic Transformation Region. The goal is to increase the capacity of these schools and districts to sustain continuous improvement by supporting initiatives identified in their turnaround plans. Funded activities may include innovations in school culture and climate, leadership, resource management, instructional rigor, cultural competency, social emotional learning, community partnerships, family engagement, and tiered systems of support. All initiatives must align with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) District and School Standards and Indicators, and with ongoing turnaround and state accountability processes.
