Description
The Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Grant Program is a nationally competitive FEMA program managed in South Carolina by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). Funded through the National Flood Insurance Fund, it supports planning and mitigation projects that reduce property flooding and associated flood insurance claims. Its central goal is to reduce or eliminate repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in participating communities.
Support includes capability and capacity building, localized flood risk reduction, and individual property mitigation. Activities range from mitigation planning and project scoping to floodwater storage, stream restoration, property acquisition, elevation, and reconstruction. These investments are intended to reduce flood risk to policyholders and the NFIP’s financial exposure.
