Description
The FY26-27 Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG) Grant Program is a Florida Department of Law Enforcement initiative established through F.S. 943.327 and legislative appropriations. It combines laboratory testing, genetic genealogy, and law enforcement investigation to develop leads in unsolved violent crimes and identify unidentified human remains, regardless of manner of death.
Funding supports analysis of legally collected biological samples to generate single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) profiles for databases permitting law enforcement use, together with associated investigative genetic genealogy research. Cases must meet Department rules and the terms of both GEDmatch PRO and FamilyTree DNA. FIGG cannot be used to identify potential witnesses or confirm named suspects, and fetal or stillborn remains are excluded.
