The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) administers the FY28 Drinking Water Planning Grant to help public drinking water systems in Idaho develop facility plans. The planning effort must address problems experienced by the drinking water system and produce a planning document in accordance with IDAPA 58.01.22. The program supports DEQ’s broader work to improve Idaho’s water resources and ensure safe and adequate drinking water supplies.
Awards are based on priority ratings that consider public health hazards, existing facility conditions, sustainability, compliance issues, operational practices, and affordability. Planning may evaluate system reliability, source redundancy, conservation, source water protection, and other infrastructure improvements. Selected sustainability commitments become part of the grant agreement and must be addressed in the planning document.
