Description
The Foundation for SMFM offers Garite Mini-Sabbatical Grants to help maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) practitioners and fellows gain or expand clinical and research skills with a mentor at another institution. Created in 2008 with the involvement of Dr. Thomas Garite, the program supports focused experiences lasting up to eight weeks. Practitioners may pursue work that strengthens their clinical practice or research program; fellows may undertake an elective offering an educational or research experience unavailable at their home institution.
Past recipients have worked on preterm birth prediction, fetal diagnosis and therapy, ultrasound, complex family planning, and postpartum monitoring. These projects illustrate the program’s scope across mentored research and clinical learning in MFM.
