Description
Gathering Grants is a Michigan Humanities program supporting nonprofits authorized to operate in Michigan with public humanities activities that bring people and communities together. The program emphasizes gathering and engagement through shared experiences, including reflective conversations, reading series, film screenings with discussions, walking tours, public lectures, and interpretive exhibits.
Supported work can include public forums, conferences, lecture and discussion series, and book or film programs about humanities topics. Research may be one component but cannot be the project's sole purpose. Creative or performing arts can serve as a catalyst when the humanities are central and the project includes interpretation or discussion of performances, concerts, literary works, or art. Project advisors contribute relevant expertise and encourage dialogue, critical thinking, and analysis.
