UL Research Institutes (ULRI) and UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) host graduate science and engineering students through the National GEM Consortium. The program connects graduate education with employer-sponsored research experiences, building research skills and preparing fellows for technical careers in industry and academia. Work at ULRI and ULSE supports a safer, more sustainable world through renewable energy, climate change, human and environmental health, and digital safety research.
Current opportunities include investigating battery and renewable energy safety, using advanced computing and experiments to discover materials, translating scientific discoveries into consensus-based standards, and improving research through knowledge and innovation management. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in ULRI’s Student Engagement Program, which offers professional development workshops, research talks, and mentorship.
