Description
The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) GEMSSTAR Grant supplements two-year scientific awards from the National Institute on Aging (NIA). It supports the Professional Development Plan (PDP) associated with anesthesiology-focused GEMSSTAR research, rather than funding the research project itself. All aging-related research topics funded by NIA fall within the program’s research scope.
The broader GEMSSTAR program helps early-career investigators launch careers as leaders in aging- or geriatric-focused research. FAER’s contribution funds education, training, and techniques that support the investigator’s development alongside the NIA-funded project. The separately supported PDP complements the research plan and provides a supportive environment for developing aging-research and geriatrics skills through activities such as mentorship, coursework, conferences, or clinical exposure.
