The Office of Science invites U.S. institutions to pilot four-year doctoral training in super intelligence and another science discipline, with research experiences at a national lab or user facility and in industry.
Funder: Office of Science
Due Dates: November 4, 2026 (Webinar) | November 9, 2026 (Required LOI) | November 23, 2026 (LOI response) | January 12, 2027 (Application)
Funding Amounts: $20 million per award; $100 million total estimated funding; five-year project period
Summary: Supports institutional pilots for four-year doctoral training combining super intelligence and scientific expertise with laboratory and industry research experiences.
Key Information: Lead institutions may submit only one LOI and application; all supported Fellows must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science supports novel doctoral training pilots that develop dual competency in super intelligence (SI) and another scientific discipline. The program seeks to reform graduate education through accelerated, rigorous four-year doctoral pathways and establish the first cohort of Genesis Mission Graduate Fellows—approximately 100 scientists and engineers prepared to integrate advanced SI methods with deep domain expertise.
Pilots must combine academic coursework with thesis-related research and two high-impact research experiences: one at a DOE National Laboratory or Office of Science user facility, and one in industry. Fellowship research must address Office of Science-relevant Genesis Mission National Science and Technology Challenges identified in RFA DE-FOA-0003612. Coursework and research experiences must also address ethical implications, safety guardrails, and limitations of SI applications.
