The Genetics Society’s Special Interest Group Funding sponsors genetics research communities that wish to run regular series of meetings focused on particular research themes. Support can cover speaker travel, accommodation, publicity and other direct meeting costs, while a mandatory carer’s award helps people with caring responsibilities attend. Supported communities include Seed Plant, the Edinburgh Alliance for Complex Trait Genetics, the C. elegans Group and London Genetics Network.
The Society places importance on equality, diversity and representation in supported meetings. Organisers must address representation of women among invited speakers, balance established and new investigators, and seek broad geographical representation where possible. New meeting series receive initial support on a pilot basis; continued sponsorship depends on the first meeting’s success and adherence to the Society’s conditions.
