Summary: Supports analysis of Lake Tahoe Basin stream temperature data to inform monitoring, ecological thresholds, and adaptive management.
Key Information: Only participating partners of the Great Basin Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit are eligible.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) seeks a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) partner to analyze, synthesize, and interpret stream temperature monitoring data in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Research will use reproducible analytical methods to evaluate long-term trends, identify ecological thresholds, and support adaptive management. The work focuses on long-term data collected and curated by the U.S. Forest Service’s Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, supporting modernization of its 2016 Land Management Plan’s water quality and stream temperature monitoring.
In collaboration with the Forest Service and interagency partners, the project will examine spatial and temporal variation in thermal regimes, their drivers, and consequences for aquatic ecosystems. Expected products include a peer-reviewed ScienceBase data release, annual management recommendations, and openly documented analytical code and reproducible workflows.
