Description
Georgia CORE administers the Georgia Cancer Research Fund, which supports the Collaborative Institutions Seed Grant Program for Cancer Research. Supported by contributions that Georgians make through their state income tax returns, the program provides seed funding to researchers working in Georgia laboratories on new ways to fight cancer. Its purpose is to catalyze multi-institutional cancer research within the state rather than fund individual investigators working in isolation.
Supported work includes research on new treatments and tools for diagnosis. Recent awards illustrate this scope: a Mercer–Morehouse team is investigating cancer stem cell populations and responses to ALDH inhibitors in uterine serous cancer, while an Augusta University–Georgia Southern University team is studying multi-drug nanocapsules for breast cancer treatment.
