Description
Geoscientists without Borders® (GWB), run by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), funds humanitarian projects that connect applied geoscience with communities in need worldwide. Since 2008, the program has supported work addressing critical water shortages and disaster risk reduction related to earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, and volcanic hazards. Its focus is on projects where geoscience can directly improve poor environments and living conditions or mitigate dangerous settings.
GWB teams work with local participants and in-country partners to develop solutions adapted to pressing community challenges. The program also strengthens the global geoscience community through multidisciplinary partnerships spanning engineering, geosciences, technology, and other scientific and humanitarian disciplines. Student engagement, knowledge transfer, capacity-building, and sustainable community benefits are central to its work.
