Description
The Gerda Henkel Visiting Professorship at the German Historical Institute London (GHIL) supports modern German historical research within a European context. Established with Foundation funding in 2008, it enables exceptionally qualified historians who teach and research modern history at German universities to undertake a major research project. Its topic area is German history from 1890 to the present, responding in particular to the relative neglect of Federal Republic history in British research on Germany.
The professorship is hosted by GHIL and linked to a Visiting Professorship in the International History Department at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). It forms part of the Foundation’s institutional partnerships promoting international research collaboration. GHIL promotes historical research in Britain and Germany, contacts between German and British researchers, and European comparative studies.
