Description
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) offer this joint initiative under DFG’s International Research Training Groups (IRTG) funding opportunity. IRTGs are structured doctoral programs run by German universities with partner institutions abroad. Each German-Canadian group brings together two teams of participating researchers, one in Germany and one in Canada.
The initiative promotes systematic research cooperation through joint research and qualification programs. Doctoral researchers from both partner groups receive cooperative, cross-border supervision and undertake longer-term, coordinated and reciprocal research visits at partner institutions. SSHRC will support one meritorious German-Canadian IRTG, covering costs related to Canada’s participation.
